Mealworm Feeding Guide

Storage, Preparation & Nutritional Value

Storage Temp 45°F - 50°F
Hydration Fruits / Veggies
Activity Low / Steady

❄️ Step 1: Dormancy

Keep mealworms in the refrigerator (45-50°F) to slow their metabolism. This keeps them in the larval stage for weeks or even months.

☀️ Step 2: Waking Up

Remove the amount you plan to feed 24 hours in advance. Allow them to reach room temperature to stimulate their appetite for gut-loading.

🍎 Step 3: Gut Loading

Offer a slice of carrot or apple. This hydrates the worms and ensures your pet receives those fresh vitamins indirectly.

🥣 Step 4: Serving

Serve in a shallow, smooth-sided dish. This prevents the mealworms from escaping and burrowing into your reptile's bedding.

The "Golden Rule" of Mealworms

  • Weekly Maintenance: If storing long-term, take them out of the fridge for 24 hours once a week to let them eat and hydrate.
  • Avoid Humidity: Keep their bedding (bran or oats) dry. Excess moisture leads to mold, which can be fatal to the worms.
  • Size Matching: Ensure the worm is an appropriate size for your pet. Smaller "mini" mealworms are available for hatchlings.

*Mealworms are a high-protein staple for Geckos, Dragons, and many species of birds.*
