Wax Worm Feeding Guide

Treat Management & Storage Techniques

Storage Temp 55°F - 60°F
Frequency Occasional Treat
Purpose Weight Gain / Reward

🌡️ Step 1: Stay Cool

Store wax worms in a cool, dry area. A wine cooler or the warmest part of your refrigerator door (55°F) is ideal for keeping them dormant.

🚫 Step 2: No Feeding

Do not add food or moisture to the wax worm container. They live off their own body fat and excess moisture will cause them to rot.

🥣 Step 3: Portion Control

Limit feedings to 1-3 worms once or twice a week. Overfeeding can lead to obesity and "addiction," where pets refuse healthier staples.

🧹 Step 4: Maintenance

Regularly remove any black (dead) worms or silk webs from the container. This prevents the spread of bacteria and keeps the batch fresh.

The "Golden Rule" of Wax Worms

  • The "Hunger Strike" Prevention: Never feed wax worms every day. Reptiles love them so much they may stop eating crickets or roaches entirely.
  • Sick/Rescues: For malnourished animals, wax worms are a life-saving tool to jumpstart weight gain and energy levels.
  • Sawdust/Bedding: Before feeding, ensure you shake off any wood shavings or bedding material the worms were shipped in.

*Wax worms are high-fat energy boosters for Leopord Geckos, Dragons, and insectivorous birds.*
